Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious sexual assault in Chester on Monday 2 February 2015.

Sometime between 10.30pm and 11pm a man in his 20s was near the footbridge which runs over the canal between Cambrian Road and Upper Cambrian Road when he was sexually assaulted.

The offender is described as white, aged between 40 to 50 years old and of average build. He was wearing a long trench coat and lace-up brown boots, one of which had no lace. He also drove a red car.

DI Clare Coleman said: “This is obviously a very concerning incident and I want to reassure people that extra officers have been patrolling the area, while detectives are working to establish the identity of the offender.

“Incidents like this are thankfully rare, however we would always urge people to follow basic safety advice and not walk alone, especially at night – try to stick to well-lit areas and always make sure someone knows where you are going and when you should be back.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Lisa Whittle on 101 quoting incident number 1005 of 2 February 2015.

Alternatively information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
