Wind: weather alert set to remain in place until 7pm

Yellow ‘be aware’ weather warnings for gusts of wind up to 60mph have been issued for parts of north Wales and north west England.

North westerly gales will continue during Tuesday with warnings in place until 7pm tonight.

Gusts of 50-60 mph with ‘squally’ showers will be a feature of todays weather.

Overnight Hawarden weather station recorded gusts of around 91km/h (57mph) there has been no reports of damage locally. Gusts of 97mph were recorded overnight in Capel Curig in Snowdonia.

Flintshire Bridge has remained open during the windy weather sensors on the bridge trigger automatic warnings when winds become hazardous. Screen Shot 2015-03-31 at 09.24.03 The Met office say:

“The deep area of low pressure will move away east through today but will maintain a swathe of very strong northwesterly winds across a large part of Britain, before easing this evening. Some of the strongest gusts will occur in association with squally showers, which will bring the additional hazard of hail in places, and some hill snow in the north of the warning region”
