With fuel prices being at a five year low and operating costs helped along by a freeze on wages for many workers, some politicians have been pretty quick to tell us the economy is recovering and we are much better off than we were a year or so ago.

The perceived notion that we are somehow feeling much more wealthy at the moment has not been lost on Arriva buses Wales who have decided, much to the anger of those who HAVE to use their buses, to hike the prices up on tickets for some north Wales routes by as much as 10%.

From Sunday 8 March 2015, changes will be made to fares in North Wales and Chester according to a news update on the bus operators website.

Adult single fares will be revised and some single fares will increase by a maximum of 10p, some will go down according to Arriva.

Multi journey tickets in many parts of north Wales however appear to have taken the greatest hit.

The Wales area day-saver ticket is increasing by 10% from £5.00 to £5.50 from 8th March, this ticket covers area’s of the region not within the Deeside, Wrexham and Bangor zones.

Tickets in the Wrexham zone have been hit with a 20p increase on the day saver tickets, the price of the weekly ticket is rising by £1.00 and the four weekly ticket by £3.50.

Tickets for return journeys and child fares have also been hit with an increase.

Deeside and Bangor multi-journey tickets are unchanged, Wrexham zone and all other areas within the purple boundary will be hit with fare rises.
